In May the 15th, 2002, one of the tenth most important intellectual characters of the current history came to the National University to receive a PhD honoris causa granted by our institution to recognize all his effort and investigation in the linguistics fields.

Chomsky was born in Philadelphia. American politician, philosopher, mathematician, and linguist. He developed the Transformational Generative Grammar in collaboration with linguists from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). This Grammar has provided the foundations for understanding language acquisition.

His most important works are: Syntactic Structures (1957), Aspects of the Syntactic Theory (1965), and the Cartesian Linguistics (1966).
