This is a two-art exercise that practices writing descriptions of events in a city - using real information - and then, extending invitations.
Preparation: Students or you can bring a newspaper in English or other local printed sources about your town that must be translated into English.


1. Explain the first task: Students scan the newspaper for interesting local events. Then, the y choose 3 events and write short summaries about each one. Students should add additional information as appro-priate (e.g. type of events, main characters, ticket fares, topic, etc.).


2. Students work individually, in pairs or in groups to write descriptions of the events chosen. Move around, the group and give some help.


3. Explain the second task: Students share their description by reading aloud. Then, they have to invite others using the information about their events.
